It’s time to celebrate Spring. The buds opening, spring blossoms, warmer and lighter days.
Spring brings with it a time to declutter and shed the winter layers. It’s the perfect time to spring clean your beauty routine, clean out old skincare products that have gone bad, stock up on new makeup colours that shout spring, go through the pantry and remove anything that doesn’t support skin health and wellness.
It’s also a great time to try healthy beauty alternatives, why not check out the fantastic natural and organic products on offer. If you are not sure where to start, try replacing one product such as your facial cleanser first and build up from there.
This season really is a time to think about how you would like to blossom? It’s all about YOU! Your season to come alive again, regain energy and healthy glowing skin. Set some realistic beauty and wellness goals for the season and take action now!
Here are 6 simple tips to get you started:
1. Move your body
Warmer days are no better time to get outside and start moving your body.
Any form of movement improves skin health giving you a radiant glow. It increases blood flow throughout the body, increasing the supply of nutrients and oxygen. As a result your skin appears clearer and healthier. And we all know about the feel good factor from all those endorphin's released, so you will feel wonderful as well.
There are endless ways to move but my top pick is out in Mother Nature, breathing in lungful’s of fresh air. Make a habit of it and try by starting slowly by adding 15 minutes of movement to your day and see and feel the difference.
This is perfect coming into spring and assists in the removal of dead skin cells after a long winter. It increases your circulation and makes your skin feel smooth and soft. Don’t scrub too vigorously to avoid irritation.
Here’s a great DIY body scrub recipe to get you started:
(I’ve used sugar as it’s a natural glycolic acid that assist in dissolving dead skin cells and clarifies the skin.)
Organic Coconut and Sugar Body Buff:
This revitalizing and moisturizing body scrub leaves the skin feeling soft with a fresh glow.
1 ¼ cups organic raw or brown sugar
6-8 Tablespoons organic extra virgin coconut oil- (melted slowly over low heat)
10 – 15 drops of your favorite essential oil.
Directions to Make
Combine all ingredients and blend well.
Scoop into a funky glass jar with a tight lid and label.
Use within 3 months.
Application Tips: Gently massage scrub onto damp skin using circular motions. Start at your feet and massage upward, avoiding the face. Rinse off. See and feel the difference!
Spring naturally lends its self to detoxification. Your body naturally performs this function each and every day. I am not talking about jumping on the latest detox diet or surviving on juices for days on end. That’s just plain hard work.
A simple tried and true option is lemon water. Create a morning ritual of adding a squeeze of lemon juice to warm water to boost your body’s natural detox abilities.
Or add a green juice to your day to help support your main detox organs the liver and the gallbladder. Be careful about not adding to much fruit, ideally you want it to be added to make your juice more palatable. Making a high fruit content juice can contribute to a high sugar load on the body. Choosing the right ingredients are vitally important to help balance blood sugar levels.
4. Spring greens
Hit your local farmers markets to stock up on enzyme rich greens and herbs like endive, romaine lettuce, spinach, watercress .Think of spring greens as your beauty tonic. High in vitamins to support healthy skin. They can be added to salads, smoothies, juices and your kids won’t even notice – trust me mine don’t.
One of the best herbs for clear skin and shiny hair is nettle, Urtica dioica, also known as stinging nettle. It is an excellent tea to drink springtime and early summer. Nettle cleanses the blood, nourishes and tones the body and the skin. It’s rich in vitamins and minerals promoting vibrant skin and shiny hair.
5. Eat Real Foods
I am not one to advocate a strict way of eating or more specifically recommend a particular diet. I love the pleasure and enjoyment of food too much.
I believe we are all unique in our makeup and what works for one may be an others poison. Take a look in your fridge, freezer and pantry and clear out any highly processed packaged foods.
Here’s a tip: Ask yourself, does it grow on a tree or in the ground? Eat it.
Reducing processed foods is a really effective way to detox and support your natural beauty this spring.
6. Emotional beauty.
Spring is a great time to reflect and create change.
We all know stress can wreak havoc on our health and does play a part with our looks. It ages your face, dulls your hair and can contribute to brittle nails.
Why not try some of these stress reducing techniques:
Take a 5 minute break. Go outside and Look Up.
Breathe. Take 3 slow gentle belly breathes with a focus on your exhalation. Do this several times during the day. Set a timer and commit.
Hug a friend, snuggle with your kids or kiss your hubby to relax and let go.
Watch a funny movie and have a laugh. Such a great stress reliever.
Remember its the small everyday changes that matter most for a beautiful inside and out.
